President and Chief Executive Officer, The Coatings Alliance Tom entered the coatings industry in 1970 with Mary Carter Paints in Tampa, Florida. In 1973, he joined Harris Paints (a division of Grow Chemical) also in Tampa. He left Harris in 1975 to join Pratt & Lambert Inc. in Buffalo, New York. While at Pratt & Lambert, Tom held a series of positions, starting as Formulating Chemist responsible for alkyd finishes and finally holding the title of Vice-President, Research and Development, when Pratt & Lambert was sold to The Sherwin-Williams Company. During his 22 years at Pratt & Lambert, Tom developed broad-based management experience. Beginning in 1987, Tom served on Pratt & Lambert's corporate strategic planning committee. He managed the trade sales research and development laboratories from 1982 to 1986. He was manager of one of Pratt & Lambert's business units with profit and loss responsibility. He led the company quality management initiative as corporate director of quality. He also led the consumer group re-engineering activities. Tom spent nine months with The Sherwin-Williams Company after their purchase of Pratt & Lambert. After this period, the inevitable consolidation of resources forced Tom into another field. He spent two and a half years as a consultant before starting The Coatings Alliance. Tom has held memberships in the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology (FSCT), the American Society of Quality and the American Productivity and Quality Center. He's been most active with the FSCT, serving on a number of its committees, the board of directors and acting as its president in 1997 through 1998. << Return to the Press Room index | | ||
